OK, I'm a little embarrassed that I know that much about GG. (That's what I call it.) However I am excited about doing some comparative tasting between two classic cocktails.
I thought for sure I was going to prefer the Manhattan, and I "knew" Wendy would. Oddly enough we were torn.
Here are the recipes:
Brooklyn
2 oz rye whiskey (Wild Turkey)
3/4 oz dry vermouth (Martini & Rossi)
1/3 oz Torani Amer
1/3 oz maraschino liqueur
Stir and strain and garnish with a cherry.
Manhattan
2 oz rye whiskey
1 oz sweet vermouth (Carpano Antica)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Stir and strain and garnish with a cherry.
Thank you, DrunkyCrow, for sharing your cocktails and GG with me tonight.
ReplyDeleteDon't really understand the GG reference, but they are both really good cocktails! Interestingly, some friends have told me that the oldest Brooklyn recipe they've found (Jack's Guide) calls for Italian (aka sweet) instead of French (aka dry) Vermouth!
ReplyDeleteErik, thanks for checking out my site and thanks for the sweet vermouth recommendation. If you don't get the GG reference you're probably better off for it. Coincidently, I just came across your article in Imbibe a couple of weeks ago. I hope to make it to one of the Savoy nights in the future. SF plays heavily in my boozy education. My first taste of whiskey that I actually enjoyed was Old Potrero, and my first taste of Fernet and Cynar were during an unscheduled but enjoyable layover there.
